A Very Happy Birthday

My first birthday as a mom was absolutely WONDERFUL!

My handsome men gave me a very special lazy morning in bed. Daddy made chilled peach soup with raspberry garnish. We had this soup at a B&B in Bozeman, Montana once. It was so nice to be treated to sweetly and to have Derek remember a special memory we've shared together.

Next up, Daddy and son time so mommy could be pampered with a pedicure and manicure. I relaxed for near 2 hours having myself primped.

That two hours was the first time I have been away from my babe for any reason other than work...and I didn't feel guilty! Time to myself was needed and so deeply appreciated!

My men took me out for lunch to finish the day off. Daddy and E gave me a cute bubble necklace - so I can finally participate in this new trend - before Daddy had to go off to work. Derek decided to host youth group at Starbucks, and thanks to the Nash's who gave me a birthday gift card, I met up with the youth to have a coffee to top off the night.

Hello 27! You look much different than 17 or 7. I think I kind of like the 2 before you. I like where I'm at, I LOVE that I get to LOVE these two wonderful men and I'm thankful for the friends and family that have journeyed with me along the way! So, this year was a Very. Happy. Birthday.

Due Date

April 9th, 1986 - Anlee's Due Date

Just like Ezra I arrived fashionably late...32 or 36 minutes, I forget. Unlike Ezra, I gave grace to my mother and arrived quickly. LIKE Ezra, we were both 19 inches long!

Tomorrow, I will be 27. 27 seems like a boring, counting down/up to 30 age. You can rent a car already. You've passed the quarter century mark and then some to 26...what next?

26 was an amazing year. We found out we were pregnant (technically at 25), had our beautiful son, traveled quite a bit, lived a FULL YEAR in one place, the USA, and for the first time in more years than I can count didn't go on an international trip.

27...what is going to be the highlight for you?

How about this, we are going to go ALL organic in meat. (Anything cooked at home.) We are also going to be fully organic in all fruits and veggies, maybe even grains! Haven't made that commitment, yet. Year 27 is going to be about informing myself about healthy food practices for me and my family. Thank you Food Inc. for such an informative documentary...my husband, however, does not thank you.

I'm also going to spend the year simplifying and downsizing. I have no idea where we will be when the next birthday comes around, so I'm going to spend the year sorting out the necessities from the clutter. With my very active 4 month old it will take me the entire year!

Lastly, I want to work on being content exactly where I am and thankful for exactly what I have.

But, let's dream a little - Here is my birthday wish list this year (so different from years past!)

...you can tell I'm a new mom, hugh?...

1 Month Celebration

"You Make Beautiful Things out of the Dust
You Make Beautiful Things out of US! "

Oh how true are the words to this song. God you make such a beautiful baby and gave him to us!
Our little "pumpkin, punkin wunkin, little boy, cutie pie, sweet boy, noodle and bug"
has made it to his first MONTH birthday! And yes, we held a photo shoot in his room to commemorate the occasion. Our little love bug has overwhelmed us with love and pure joy over the last month.
I remember the first night we brought him home, we took turns throughout the night watching him sleep. I couldn't close my eyes. I had to watch his chest move up and down, completely mesmerized by the wonder of our baby boy.

This cutie gained over 2 lbs in his first month of life! That is A LOT! He out grew his premie clothes. He averaged 10 diapers a day! He grew 1.5 inches (painful, right?) He curled his finger around mom and dad's and he SMILED!
 Practicing head control!
 Giving up practicing head control...
 Hold me please!!!
We love our little boy.

Gone with the Wind

Chick-fil-a!
August 27th, 2011'
Okay, we landed! And we pulled off the surprise! We left Korea 5 days early to surprise Anlee's side of the family with an early arrival. Mom wasn't too happy about it (the house wasn't clean "enough") but, it was good to get home and rest before getting to work seeing everyone. Derek and I had a long flight from Korea to Japan where we were stuck on the tarmac while all of the airline computer systems crashed world-wide. We sat on the plane for hours until they allowed passengers to get off if they wanted something to eat. Derek found McDonalds and paid close to $30 for hamburgers and fries!!! We missed our flight from Dallas to Atlanta so we were bumped to the next one. We arrived in Atlanta after 10. Dad and Pam were waiting for us at baggage claim with balloons. It was such a sweet feeling to see Dad and Pam. Pam was in on our little secret about coming home, but due to the missed flight, we had to let Dad in on the secret a little ahead of schedule. After loading all of our bags into the car (one carry-on weighed 40 lbs) we sighed a sigh of relief and headed for the nearest Arbys. We picked up some roast beef sandwiches and made the last leg of the journey to Mom's where we knocked on the door at midnight. Keith, groggy and curious who was at the door, peeked around the door and saw us. His reaction was to say "Oh my God, Annette!" Then he closed the door! He woke mom up and she started snarling (with a few tears) that we were home early.

The best part comes in two pieces! Little Scottie Boo (our dog) came running over and remembered ME! AND, the world's cutest nephew woke up to meet his new aunt and uncle. Baby Caleb came in the room and I fell in LOVE! Holding him for the first time just felt "right". Babies have always had a special place in my heart, but this little guy feels like mine in a sense. When your brother is also your best friend, you just fall head-over-heels for the beautiful creation he had a hand in.

The family woke up, greeted us and we toured all of the changes in the house. Then it was time to CRASH. Derek and I were technically starting our day (time in Korea), but we needed sleep. 20 hours of flying began to take it's toil on us. To bed we went.

Happy Birthday Matthew! We made it just for Matt Man's birthday. But, he's a busy guy so he was gone most of the day. We woke up, played with the baby, laid around on the couch and met with family as they trickled in. We didn't advertise that we were home. We wanted everyone to find out slowly and by chance at first.

We did some major shopping in the afternoon. We visited mom at work. We had a ticket for $1,160.00, but paid $390 with a savings of over $700! This was the best I have ever done and so much fun to expose Derek to my thrifty-frugal side. Most of our clothes were either donated or on a boat being shipped to America so we were in NEED!

Family tradition: On a birthday we go to the Buddha, a Japanese steak house. YAY for birthday's in our family. This was Derek's first birthday out with us.
Next to the Buddha was a Korean restaurant. You can tell how D feels about it.

The Birthday Boy happy about the lack of MSG. Korea is famous for adding it to their dishes.

Mommy (Kristin) and the cutie (Caleb) waiting for the show to begin

Kristin is retired from the Army. She's amazing. So is her cute son.

Watching the fire show in front of him. Cutest expression award goes to Caleb.

The family hasn't changed much. Just Matt's new hair color and we added a baby plus Derek!

Sorry it's blurry, but look how happy Mom looks. She has her whole family together for the first time in a year!
Oh, and these two above match (GA TECH colors - blue and gold)
You can interpret this face!

Our first world's-favorite-aunt-&-uncle picture with baby Caleb. And pre-weight gain from American food.

So in love!

The Rickerson's - These two have been married for 4 years! They are starting to look the same! Sign of a happy marriage!

My rents. I love em'

Let me translate this picture for you - Josh and Matt attempting to "explain something" to the other one without progress.

We spent a day visiting dad, running errands and of course eating more and shopping. Baby Caleb sat in the firetruck for the first time!

My beautiful and pregnant sista-in-law, Ashleigh, with baby Knox on the way! Oh gosh, I'm going to be an aunt again! These two have been married for 7 or 8 years, I guess, and expecting their first little one! Can't wait to meet him!

A picnic lunch with Dad at Spurell Bluff State Park. Amazing day!

I love this picture! Dad and Derek together!

Whit, soon-to-be-papa, on curry night when Derek and I cooked for him and Ashleigh (my brother)

Casey, my sweet brother of the same age! He's always had a special place in my heart!

Ashleigh, tired of the camera!
Oh man, the first few days were filled with sweet reunions with family, food and fun. The first week was hard sleep wise. We were waking up at 4am and going to bed with the 55+,  but we were eating my parents out of house and home! We are so thankful for the time we had with our family. More to come!

Happy Burfday!!!

Derek got an audio interface for his birthday!
And he got to have lunch at his favorite Mexican restaurant, TomaTillo. We had a birthday party for him there last year. The birthday card is compliments of my student, Lydia. This is after we had bought an audio interface for him and did some major souvenir shopping.
handsome guy!

Apgujeong, Seoul
Since being married allows us to have sleepovers we booked a hotel in the richest area of Seoul to relax and explore one last time. Derek picked the hotel...unfortunately, we didn't get a room with a bathtub, but the room was amazing. Of couse, it helped that we were able to do our favorite thing in a hotel...WATCH National Geographic!  This is an intersection in the back streets of Apgujeong. ENTITLEMENT CAPITOL OF THE WORLD!

Now, we are off to the French district of Seoul. A large population of French people congregate in one area near the river. They have great shopping and even better food! AND you can get milkshakes made with American ICE CREAM here! Totally worth the trip in the 80% humidity!

This is the way we cross the road, cross the road, cross the road! Notice I can always spot Derek!

This is a traditional Korean pose of "peace sign" and escalators! We are coming out of a busy subway and thought the picture would be worth sharing.

Gucci, Prada, LV, etc! My sister-in-law would love it.
After dinner at D's favorite burger restaurant, we went for a walk through Apgujeong where most of the Korean celebrities hang out. We wouldn't know a celebrity from anyone else, so we just enjoyed walking. This is one of the most expensive shopping malls in Korea. We didn't even cross the street, just stayed on our side!

For Mom!

Walking along the river. Namsan tower is in the way back of the picture.
