Why is it that lately I can't sleep after a "are-you-kinding-me do-you-realize-what-time-it-is middle-of-the-night" feeding? I normally ask Derek what time it is as he rolls out of bed at the sound of our little one whimpering for a change and a meal. He responds groggily some obscene time of the morning and we push through. We have this factory style approach to middle-of-the-night feedings. Derek, the ultimate diaper changer has it down to a science, brings the freshened up babe to me in bed and we coo and caw at each other while E nurses. E is normally out in 5-10 minutes again and Dad transports the babe back to his crib.

Lately, E has taken us on the wild ride of growth spurts. Here is how tonights feeding went: E whimpers. Dad groans. Dad gets up, trips over everything in the floor because mommy hasn't had "time" (this is true, but also energy) to clean the nursery, to change the little one's diaper. Takes longer than normal because he can't find the diapers (they are on the floor unmade - cloth diapers - due to mom's "time" issues,) Dad brings E to bed (at 2:00am) for mommy to nurse. No cooing responses form mom. E is out in 5 minutes.......mom is now blogging.

Our approach to sleep lately has been completely out of sync. Our sweet sleep-through-the-night sleeper has regressed to waking up every couple of hours. I'm not quite to the point of pulling my hair out. I trained myself not to lose sleep over losing sleep in college. (I made it through college on 3-5 hours sleep a night...for FOUR YEARS!) So, to compensate, E and I are happily staying in bed onwards of 9:30 most mornings. A better mom would sacrifice a couple of days sleep to reintroduce a sleeping schedule...cheers for better moms.

Our sixteen week old is a beautiful, dying-to-self miracle that daily teaches us grace. He is ushering in grace into our marriage! Now, if anyone wants to register us for a 7 day all inclusive family of three vacation just to get away from our busy lives, to rest and enjoy each other, please do!! I haven't researched baby sunscreen yet so maybe not the beach. :)

It's 3:11am - I'm entitled to dream -
Mom, dad and a sweet, calm, excited-to-travel baby board a plane (where the passengers smile that such a cute, calm baby is board) for Seattle. We are headed straight to Orcas Island to Doe Bay Resort (our honeymoon location). We rent a car, which is available at the curb with a complimentary car seat installed, we pick up some Iver's fish and chips and off we go. Ezra loves the ferry, watching the sea gulls. Mom and dad have their binoculars for some much-talked-about bird watching. We unload in our cabin, snuggle with our babe before putting him to bed, mom and dad read and enjoy couch time together, E sleeps through the night, everyone is rested. We hike Mt. Constitution for a beautiful, sunny view of the San Juans...okay, so now it's 3:28am and I really should stop dreaming about this vacation, go back to sleep and hopefully, E will finish sleeping soundly tonight, we will all feel rested before the start of our super busy weekend marathon of events.

April - you are full of events...please show us grace for the times we get stressed out, over-worked, sleep-deprived and then some...What is that I hear, the babe is now awake.
