Happy Holidays Family and Friends

Happy Holidays from the Fekkes'
Our first snow of the winter season after Thanksgiving dinner
Technically, we are on American soil right now

Our Bible Study family (L to R: Trish, Reggie, Derek, Anlee, Nikkia, Hyun Sung)

Our Table Mates for the evening
Notice the UGA pin on Anlee's sweater! Goooo Dawgs!

Christmas at Yongsan...Last year we were "just friends."

Merry Christmas Friends and Family. We love you all and we wish you happy holidays.

We enjoyed our Thanksgiving meal this past Sunday at Yongsan Air Base in Seoul. We paid about $35.00 each, but we enjoyed two plates of dessert, Derek ate "yummy" sausage and Anlee had her turkey and "dressing."

As we walked outside after dinner, the snow was coming down hard! We have stopped checking the weather forecasts so we were not expecting snow, but we enjoyed the excitement of the year's first snowfall. It's now officially WINTER in Korea!

Last year, when we went as friends to this amazing Thanksgiving banquet. But, this year, we went as newlyweds. We are thankful for each other and for our friends and family who have encouraged us and loved us and continue to teach us how to love each other as Christ loves us. Happy Thanksgiving and Merry Christmas!

The Fekkes

Something Personal

I love my husband. He's a sweet man who daily teaches me about the love of Christ, about how when you surrender your life to Jesus he has the power and desires the glory of changing you into his image bearer. My husband surrenders his life daily, hourly, every opportunity. It humbles me to watch him grow, to see him take every thought captive, to receive his generous love, patience, and encouragement. I am thankful for my husband for reasons that God reveals to me every day. I love being Derek's wife. Learning from him, about him and with him is a joy.

The last three months of marriage have been memorable. The first full week of marriage and we were half the world a part. Reunited back in Korea, jet lagged for weeks, figuring out where to put 5 extra suitcases in a two-bedroom Korean  apartment, learning to live together and sharing a bathroom...if you are married then you remember the first couple of weeks of these things. In figuring out who will wash the dishes, who will wash the clothes, who will mop the floor and who will take out the trash, we have found harmony. If I'm washing dishes, Derek is playing the piano. It's soothing and something I really enjoying hearing while I'm doing housework. If I clean all day on Saturday, he does the cleaning on Sunday to give me rest. There is a lot of joy in giving to each other, encouraging each other and in finding those quirks about each other.

I smile when I wake up because of my best friend sitting next to me. He loves the Lord with a passion that I envy and a heart that is joyful. He's a servant and minister. He's a gift. Our marriage is a gift. This really REALLY big family that God has given us is a gift. Today, I hope to remind myself of these good gifts and give thanks!

Happy Three Months Derek!!!

-~*~-Thailand Here We Come-~*~-

We are going to be in Thailand, Cambodia and Vietnam for 16 days!!!
Angkor Wat, Cambodia, here we come!
Ha Long Bay, Vietnam!

Koh Samui, Thailand!
For 16 days and nights, we will travel to Thailand, take a train through Cambodia and backpack the bays of Vietnam! We are PUMPED UP for this adventure together. We are in the planning stage of what we will do and the sights we will see, but these are some of our top picks! We are planning to take a cooking class in Thailand where you can go into the fields with the Thais, pick your own vegetables and later cook your own curry with their expertise in curry leading the way! Needless to say, Derek is excited! And Anlee knows that she will have at least one meal that she can eat entirely! (Peanut butter is making the trip with us!) Our plan is to take a train through Cambodia stopping by Angkor Wat before the Cambodian government closes it to tourists due to damage by so much tourism. We will take trains, buses, planes and boats to get to Vietnam where we are hoping to stay overnight in a boat in Ha Long Bay. Riding elephants, visiting beaches, learning about new cultures and eating some freaking yummy food is all in store for us on our adventure! If you have visited these countries, send us tips for our trip! YAY!!!!!

-peace,
D&A
